?

I heard recently that one of the most important questions you can continually ask yourself is "What do I need?"

                                         What do you need?

  1. I need proper nutrition, a good night's sleep, community, work, intellectual stimulation (a bit!), curiosity, a place to live and, to some degree, freedom and self-determination.

  2. I have another though about this question. One of the texts for loving kindness meditation, it is old, not sure from where, but here goes an English translation from pali:
May I (you, insert names and groups) be safe and protected from harm; free from enmity and danger.
May I be happy and peaceful; free from from mental suffering.
May I be healthy and strong; free from physical suffering.
May I able to care for myself easily and have well being.

Repeating these words, starting with myself and including teachers, friends, family and those I do not get on with...reminds me of the essentials of life, which I find comforting. Perhaps like the question, What do you need?
